The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), (1) created man out of a germ-cell (2) Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- (3) Who teacheth by the pen, (4) Teacheth man that which he knew not. (5) Yet man behaves arrogantly, (6) As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. (7) for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. (8) Have you seen him who restrains (9) a servant (of Allah) when he prays? (10) Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, (11) Or enjoins righteousness? (12) Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? (13) Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? (14) Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead (15) by the lying forelock steeped in sin. (16) Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), (17) We too would summon the braves of the army. (18) No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ (19)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
