The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created (1) created man out of a germ-cell (2) Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, (3) who taught by the Pen, (4) Teacheth man that which he knew not. (5) By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. (6) Because he sees himself free from want. (7) Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. (8) Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, (9) A servant when he prays? (10) Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, (11) Or enjoins Righteousness? (12) Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? (13) Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? (14) Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, (15) by the lying forelock steeped in sin. (16) Then let him call his associates; (17) We too would summon the braves of the army. (18) By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ (19)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
