The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Embryo (Al-Alaq). Sent down in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
