The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: (1) Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (2) Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, (3) who taught by the Pen, (4) Taught man what he did not know. (5) No! [But] indeed, man transgresses (6) because he thinks himself self-sufficient: (7) truly, all will return to your Lord. (8) Have you seen one who prevents (9) a servant (of Allah) when he prays? (10) Have you seen if he was upon guidance (11) Or enjoins Righteousness? (12) Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? (13) Does he not realize that God sees him? (14) Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, (15) By the lying, the sinful forelock. (16) Then let him summon his council, (17) We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! (18) By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ (19)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Embryo (Al-Alaq). Sent down in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
