The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
