The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
