The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
