The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
