The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
