The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night enshrouding (1) and by the day when it breaks in its glory, (2) And [by] He who created the male and female, (3) Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! (4) So for one who gave and practised piety (5) And accepts the best, (6) We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). (7) But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, (8) And rejects the best, (9) We will ease him toward difficulty. (10) His riches will not save him when he perisheth. (11) Verify on us is the guidance (12) and to Us belong the Last and the First. (13) Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; (14) None shall enter it save the most wretched, (15) Who denied (the truth) and turned away. (16) One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- (17) Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself (18) And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, (19) He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. (20) and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. (21)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
