The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
