The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, (1) and by the day when it breaks in its glory, (2) and by the creation of the male and the female. (3) Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! (4) Yet he who gives to others and has fear, (5) and confirms the reward most fair, (6) We shall ease the way of fortune for him. (7) But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, (8) and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). (9) for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: (10) and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. (11) Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, (12) And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. (13) Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, (14) None shall enter it save the most wretched, (15) Who belieth and turneth away. (16) But the righteous one will avoid it - (17) [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself (18) not as payment for favours received, (19) seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, (20) And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. (21)
