The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
