The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- (1) and thou art a lodger in this land; (2) And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); (3) We verily have created man in an atmosphere: (4) Does he think that no one has power over him? (5) He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" (6) Does he think that no one sees him? (7) Have We not given him two eyes, (8) and a tongue, and a pair of lips, (9) and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? (10) But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... (11) And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? (12) (It is) the setting free of a slave, (13) or giving food on a day of hunger (14) To the orphan with claims of relationship, (15) Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. (16) Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. (17) Those who do so are the people of the right hand, (18) whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, (19) The Fire will vault them over. (20)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
