The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land (1) And you are free to live upon it, -- (2) or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) (3) We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. (4) Deemest he that none will overpower him? (5) saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? (6) Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? (7) Have We not made for him two eyes (8) and a tongue and two lips? (9) and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? (10) But he could not scale the steep ascent. (11) And what do you know what that difficult steep is? (12) The freeing of a slave, (13) Or to feed in times of famine (14) an orphaned relative (15) Or some poor wretch in misery, (16) Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. (17) These are the people of the right. (18) And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. (19) Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. (20)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
