89 Dawn
Al-Fajr
Juz 30
Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, (1) and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), (2) And by the even and the odd, (3) And by oath of the night when it recedes (4) Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? (5) Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, (6) of Iram, known for their lofty columns, (7) The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; (8) And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? (9) And with Firaun, who used to crucify. (10) [All of] whom oppressed within the lands (11) And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. (12) Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; (13) Most surely your Lord is watching. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" (16) No! But you do not honor the orphan (17) And do not urge one another to feed the needy. (18) And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (19) And you love wealth with exceeding love. (20) Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, (21) and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, (22) And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? (23) He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" (24) For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, (25) and none can bind with bonds like His. (26) O thou peaceful soul! (27) Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). (28) Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! (29) "And enter you My Paradise!" (30)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
