Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn (1) and ten nights, (2) by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) (3) and by the passing night, (4) Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (5) Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? (6) the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, (7) the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? (8) And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? (9) And the mighty Pharaoh (10) Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, (11) spreading in them much corruption? (12) Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: (13) Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" (16) Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! (17) And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! (18) and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, (19) and why do you have an excessive love of riches? (20) Most certainly when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. (21) and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? (22) and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” (24) So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, (25) Nor shall any bind with His bond. (26) O soul that art at rest! (27) return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. (28) "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! (29) into My Paradise. (30)
