Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.
