Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; (1) and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), (2) by the even and the odd, (3) And the night when it departeth, (4) Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? (5) Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- (6) Iram of the pillars, (7) Like whom no one else was born in the cities. (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? (10) All of them committed excesses in their lands, (11) and exceeded in corruption therein. (12) so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: (13) Truly your Lord is ever watchful. (14) As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, (15) But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." (16) Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! (17) Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, (18) And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, (19) And love wealth with all your heart. (20) When the earth is crushed into small pieces (21) and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, (22) And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? (23) He will say, “Alas if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” (24) Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. (25) none shall bind as He binds. (26) (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). (28) So enter among My (righteous) servants (29) Enter My Paradise." (30)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
