Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn (1) and ten nights, (2) And the even and the odd, (3) and by the night when it departs. (4) is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? (5) ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, (6) Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), (7) The like of which was not created in the lands; (8) And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? (9) And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? (10) [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, (11) So they made great mischief therein? (12) Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. (13) Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. (14) As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." (15) But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. (16) But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, (17) And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (18) And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (19) And you harbour intense love for wealth. (20) But no; when the earth is ground to powder, (21) and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, (22) On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. (23) He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." (24) So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. (25) and none can bind with bonds like His. (26) [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! (27) return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. (28) So enter among My (righteous) servants (29) yea, enter thou My paradise!" (30)
