89 Dawn
Al-Fajr
Juz 30
Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, (1) by the Ten Nights, (2) by the even and the odd, (3) The night as it advances, (4) There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! (5) Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, (6) Iram of the pillars, (7) The like of which were not created in the land? (8) And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? (9) And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - (10) Those who rebelled in the cities, (11) And multiplied corruption. (12) Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. (13) Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. (14) As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” (15) And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” (16) By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, (17) Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, (18) And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, (19) And you harbour intense love for wealth. (20) Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, (21) and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, (22) And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? (23) He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' (24) Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. (25) None bindeth as He then will bind. (26) O soul that art at rest! (27) Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), (28) "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, (29) Enter then My garden." (30)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
