Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
