Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the daybreak, (1) And the Ten Nights, (2) and the even and the odd, (3) And by the night when it departs. (4) Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? (5) ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, (6) the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, (7) The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; (8) And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? (9) And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, (10) They were tyrants in the land (11) spreading in them much corruption? (12) Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. (13) Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. (14) BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; (15) But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." (16) (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, (17) And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (18) And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, (19) and you ardently love wealth. (20) No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' (24) On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. (25) And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. (26) [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, (27) return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. (28) "Enter then among My votaries, (29) yea, enter thou My paradise!" (30)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
