Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak (1) By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). (2) And by the even and the odd, (3) and by the passing night, (4) Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (5) Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? (6) [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, (7) The likes of whom had never been created in the land? (8) And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; (9) and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, (10) [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, (11) and brought about great corruption therein: (12) Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: (13) Truly your Lord is ever watchful. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." (15) But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." (16) Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan (17) Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, (18) And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (19) And ye love riches with exceeding love. (20) No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, (21) And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, (22) and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' (24) For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, (25) and none can bind with bonds like His. (26) [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, (27) Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! (28) Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! (29) And come into My Paradise! (30)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
