Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 The multiple and the one, 3 The night as it advances, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
