Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; (1) And ten nights, (2) And the Even and the Odd, (3) by the night when it journeys on! (4) Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. (5) (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, (6) of the columned (city) of Iram, (7) the like of which was never created in the land, (8) and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? (9) and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? (10) All of them committed excesses in their lands, (11) And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). (12) So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. (13) Truly your Lord is ever watchful. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" (16) No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, (17) and do not urge one another to feed the poor, (18) and you devour the inheritance greedily, (19) And you harbour intense love for wealth. (20) No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - (21) And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, (22) On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. (23) He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' (24) None can punish as He will punish on that day, (25) And no one binds like He does! (26) (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: (28) Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! (29) And enter into My garden. (30)
