Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn, (1) and the ten nights, (2) And [by] the even [number] and the odd (3) and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). (4) Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? (5) Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - (6) The people of many-columned lram. (7) whose like has never been created in any other land. (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) and with Pharaoh of the stakes? (10) Those who rebelled in the cities, (11) And multiplied therein corruption. (12) Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. (13) Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). (14) As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." (15) But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' (16) Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! (17) Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, (18) And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, (19) And you love wealth with exceeding love. (20) But no; when the earth is ground to powder, (21) And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, (22) and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! (24) Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, (25) and none can bind with bonds like His. (26) [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, (27) Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). (28) And enter among My [righteous] servants (29) And enter My Paradise." (30)
