Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn (1) By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). (2) Consider the multiple and the One! (3) And the night when it departs. (4) Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? (5) (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, (6) the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, (7) the like of which was never created in the land, (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) and with Pharaoh of the stakes? (10) led rebellious lives, (11) and spread much corruption in the land. (12) Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; (13) Truly your Lord is ever watchful. (14) BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; (15) And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” (16) No! But you show no good to the orphan, (17) And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! (18) And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, (19) and love the riches, loving them ardently. (20) Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? (23) He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' (24) For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, (25) and Allah will bind as none other can bind. (26) (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: (28) "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! (29) enter My Paradise! (30)
