Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, (1) and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), (2) The multiple and the one, (3) The night as it advances, (4) Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? (5) (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, (6) [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, (7) The like of which were not created in the land? (8) And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? (9) And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs (10) who transgressed in the countries of the world (11) and worked much corruption therein? (12) Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. (13) surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." (15) But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." (16) No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, (17) And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. (18) And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, (19) and love the riches, loving them ardently. (20) Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, (21) And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, (22) And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? (23) He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! (24) So on that day, no one punishes like He does! (25) And none can bind as He will bind. (26) (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! (28) Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! (29) And enter into My garden. (30)
