Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn (1) And the ten nights, (2) And by oath of the even and the odd. (3) And by oath of the night when it recedes (4) There surely is an oath for thinking man. (5) Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? (6) With many-columned Iram, (7) The like of which were not created in the land? (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - (10) Those who rebelled in the cities, (11) So they made great mischief therein? (12) Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. (13) your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). (14) Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." (15) But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. (16) Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! (17) And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (18) And you devour inheritance all with greed, (19) And you love wealth with exceeding love. (20) But no; when the earth is ground to powder, (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? (23) He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." (24) So on that day, no one punishes like He does! (25) And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. (26) (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! (27) Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. (28) Enter thou among My bondmen! (29) yea, enter thou My paradise!" (30)
