Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the dawn (1) and ten nights, (2) and the even and the odd, (3) And the night when it departs. (4) Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. (5) Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, (6) the people of the huge columned city of Eram (7) Like whom no one else was born in the cities. (8) And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; (9) and with Pharaoh of the stakes? (10) Who terrorised the region, (11) and spread much corruption in the land. (12) Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. (13) For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." (16) But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, (17) And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (18) and you devour the inheritance greedily, (19) and you love wealth with boundless love! (20) Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, (21) And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22) And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? (23) He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". (24) But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, (25) And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. (26) O thou peaceful soul! (27) Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), (28) Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! (29) yea, enter thou My paradise!" (30)
Almighty Allah's Truth.
