Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, (1) By the Nights twice five; (2) By the even and odd (contrasted); (3) The night as it advances, (4) Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? (5) Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - (6) Iram of the pillars, (7) the like of which was never created in the land, (8) And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, (9) And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? (10) All of them committed excesses in their lands, (11) And multiplied iniquity therein? (12) Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; (13) For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' (15) However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". (16) No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, (17) and you urge not the feeding of the needy, (18) Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately (19) And you love wealth with immense love. (20) Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, (21) And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, (22) and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? (23) He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" (24) So on that day, no one punishes like He does! (25) And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. (26) [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, (27) Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], (28) "Enter then among My votaries, (29) and enter My Paradise.” (30)
