Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn (1) by the Ten (secret) Nights, (2) And by oath of the even and the odd. (3) and by the night when it departs. (4) Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? (5) Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, (6) (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, (7) The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; (8) And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? (9) and with Pharaoh of the stakes? (10) (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, (11) spreading in them much corruption? (12) Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. (13) Most surely your Lord is watching. (14) As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' (15) But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' (16) No! But you show no good to the orphan, (17) nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. (18) and you devour the inheritance with greed, (19) And you love wealth with immense love. (20) By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, (21) And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, (22) And when hell is brought that day on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? (23) He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' (24) Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, (25) and none can bind with bonds like His! (26) O the contented soul! (27) return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! (28) Enter thou among My bondmen! (29) Enter thou My Garden! (30)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
