Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day (1) and the ten nights! (2) and the even and the odd, (3) and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). (4) Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? (5) Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? (6) Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), (7) The like of which was not built in the cities, (8) And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, (9) And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? (10) Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, (11) and brought about great corruption therein: (12) So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. (13) Most surely your Lord is watching. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." (15) But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. (16) But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, (17) And do not urge one another to feed the needy. (18) And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, (19) and you love wealth with boundless love! (20) Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, (21) And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, (22) And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? (23) He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". (24) But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, (25) and none can bind with bonds like His. (26) (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! (28) So enter among My servants, (29) Enter My Paradise." (30)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
