Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the break of Day (1) and ten nights, (2) by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) (3) And the night when it departs. (4) Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? (5) Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, (6) Who were very tall like lofty pillars, (7) The likes of whom had never been created in the land? (8) (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. (9) And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - (10) They were tyrants in the land (11) And multiplied corruption. (12) Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. (13) For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. (14) As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." (15) And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. (16) Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, (17) Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, (18) and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, (19) and you ardently love wealth. (20) No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - (21) And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, (22) And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? (23) He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! (24) Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, (25) None bindeth as He then will bind. (26) O satisfied soul, (27) "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! (28) So enter among My servants, (29) And enter My Paradise." (30)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
