Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? (1) Faces on that Day shall be downcast, (2) labouring, toilworn, (3) They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire (4) They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, (5) no food for them except thorny plants (6) Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. (7) Many faces will be joyous on that day, (8) well pleased with the result of their striving, (9) in a sublime garden, (10) Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: (11) with a flowing spring, (12) Therein are thrones raised high, (13) And cups set at hand. (14) Cushions arranged, (15) and carpets spread out. (16) What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? (17) how heaven was lifted up, (18) And the mountains: how they were fixed? (19) And the earth, how it is spread? (20) (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. (21) You are not a warden over them, (22) But whoever turns back and denies the truth, (23) God will punish them with the greatest torment. (24) Surely to Us is their turning back, (25) Then indeed, upon Us is their account. (26)
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
