Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
