Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, weary, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets laid out, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
