Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? (1) On that day (many) faces will be downcast, (2) Labouring, wearied out, (3) They shall roast into the scalding Fire, (4) Made to drink from a boiling spring. (5) They shall have no food but of thorns, (6) Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. (7) In that day other faces will be calm, (8) well pleased with their striving, (9) in a sublime Garden, (10) Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: (11) Therein will be a bubbling spring: (12) raised couches, (13) well arranged goblets, (14) And cushions set in a row, (15) And rich carpets spread. (16) Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, (17) And at the sky - how it is raised? (18) And the hills, how they are set up? (19) how the earth was outstretched? (20) And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: (21) You are not a dictator over them. (22) But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), (23) Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. (24) for behold, unto Us will be their return, (25) then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. (26)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
