The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], (1) Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, (2) But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. (3) Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, (4) On a Mighty Day, (5) a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? (6) Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- (7) And what will make you know what Sijjin is? (8) (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. (9) Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations (10) those who give the lie to the [coming of] Judgment Day: (11) for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: (12) who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” (13) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. (14) No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, (15) Then they will indeed burn in Hell. (16) Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" (17) However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. (18) And what will make you know what the highest Iliyin is? (19) It is a written book, (20) To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). (21) Verily the pious will be in heaven, (22) seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. (23) upon their faces thou wilt see the brightness of bliss. (24) They will be served the choicest wine, sealed (25) which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. (26) With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: (27) a spring, the nearest ones to God will drink from it. (28) Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: (29) When passing by them, they would wink at one another (30) and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; (31) And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. (32) Whereas they have not at all been sent as guardians over them. (33) So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, (34) On high couches, gazing. (35) Will not the disbelievers then be duly recompensed for their laughing at the believers? (36)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
