The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, (1) Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, (2) But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. (3) What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? (4) For a tremendous Day - (5) A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? (6) NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! (7) And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! (8) It is a written book. (9) Ruin is for the deniers on that day! (10) who cry lies to the Day of Doom; (11) And none will deny it, except every transgressor, rebel. (12) [and so,] whenever Our messages are conveyed to them, they but say: "Fables of ancient times!" (13) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. (14) Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, (15) Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. (16) and they will be told, "This is what you were wont to belie." (17) Nay, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin. (18) And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! (19) It is a Book inscribed, (20) witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). (21) Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, (22) On couches, gazing, (23) Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. (24) They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, (25) its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- (26) And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: (27) The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. (28) Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed, (29) and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; (30) When they returned to their people they returned jesting; (31) And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!" (32) though they were not sent to be their keepers -- (33) So today those who believe shall laugh at the unbelievers; (34) Reclining on couches, looking on. (35) Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do? (36)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
