The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to the defrauders, (1) who demand of other people full measure for themselves, (2) Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! (3) Do they not realize that they will be resurrected (4) On a mighty Day. (5) A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? (6) Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - (7) And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? (8) (It is) a marked Book. (9) Woe on that Day to those who belied it, (10) Those that deny the Day of Judgment. (11) Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, (12) When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." (13) No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds. (14) No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord, (15) Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. (16) It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” (17) Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). (18) And what will make you know what 'Illiyyun is? (19) A record [indelibly] inscribed, (20) To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). (21) Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, (22) On thrones, they shall gaze; (23) You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. (24) Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: (25) pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: (26) And it is mixed with Tasneem. (27) a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. (28) Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. (29) And winked at one another as they passed by them; (30) and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. (31) and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," (32) Yet they were not sent to be their guardians. (33) This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, (34) On adorned couches, observing. (35) Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? (36)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
