The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: (1) Who insist on being given full when they take from others, (2) but when they measure or weigh, give less. (3) Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), (4) [and called to account] on an awesome Day (5) The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? (6) By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. (7) and what could make you understand what the Sijjin is? -- (8) It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. (9) Woe on that day to the rejecters, (10) and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. (11) And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) (12) When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. (13) No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. (14) Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, (15) Then they shall roast in Hell, (16) And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. (17) Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin - (18) And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Illiyun is? (19) It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). (20) To which bear witness those brought nigh. (21) Verily the pious will be in heaven, (22) resting on couches, looking around. (23) You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. (24) They will be given to drink of pure wine, sealed. (25) The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: (26) Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution), (27) a spring at which those drawn close to God will drink. (28) Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: (29) And when the believers used to pass by, they used to gesture at each other with their eyes. (30) And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. (31) and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," (32) Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. (33) So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, (34) [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: (35) Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? (36)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
