He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. (1) Because there came to him the blind man. (2) How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, (3) Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? (4) As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, (5) To him dost thou attend; (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) but as for one who comes to you, eagerly (8) And is also fearful (of God), (9) you pay no heed to him. (10) Assuredly this is a reminder (11) So whoever wills may remember it. (12) upon highly honored pages, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) In the hands of scribes (15) and angelic scribes. (16) May man be slain how ungrateful he is! (17) Of what [stuff] has He created him? (18) Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, (19) and then makes it easy for him to go through life; (20) then causes him to die and buries him, (21) Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. (22) Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. (23) Let man look at his food: (24) That We pour forth water in abundance, (25) and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; (26) Thereby produced grain in it. (27) and vines and edible plants, (28) And olive and palm trees (29) And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, (30) and fruit and pastures, (31) A provision for you and for your cattle. (32) At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (33) The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, (34) his mother, his father, (35) As well as his wife and children. (36) Each man will have enough cares that day. (37) [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). (39) And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, (40) and veiled with darkness. (41) These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
