He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
