He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. (2) But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? (3) (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. (4) As for him who thinketh himself independent, (5) To him you attend; (6) Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. (7) but as for one who comes to you, eagerly (8) and fearfully, (9) So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! (10) Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, (11) (and whoso wills, shall remember it) (12) upon pages high-honoured, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) by the hands of the noble, virtuous, (15) Who are noble, virtuous. (16) Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. (17) From what did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, (19) He makes his path easy for him. (20) Then He causes him to die and be buried. (21) Then He will raise him up again when He please. (22) No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. (23) So man must look at his food. (24) That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, (25) and then We cleaved the earth asunder. (26) And We made corn grow, (27) And grapes and fodder, (28) And olive-trees and palm-trees (29) and dense-tree'd gardens, (30) And fruits and grasses: (31) A provision for you and your cattle. (32) But when the deafening cry comes, (33) it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, (34) mother, father, (35) wife and sons, (36) Each man will have enough cares that day. (37) (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (39) And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, (40) Dust shall cover them (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. (42)
