He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, (1) Because the blind man had come in his august presence. (2) But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (3) Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? (4) As for him who is not in want of any thing, (5) Unto him thou payest regard. (6) although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; (7) But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose (8) While he fears [Allah], (9) you ignore him. (10) These verses are a reminder (11) So whoso wills may give heed to it. (12) Inscribed in Writs honoured, (13) exalted and purified, (14) By the hands of scribes. (15) noble and pious. (16) Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. (17) From what thing did He create him? (18) From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, (19) and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. (20) Then He causes him to die and be buried. (21) Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. (22) Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. (23) Let the human reflect on the food he eats, (24) That We pour forth water in abundance, (25) then We split the earth in fissures (26) Then We cause to grow therein the grain, (27) and vines and edible plants, (28) And olives and date palms, (29) And garden-closes of thick foliage (30) And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), (31) For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (32) When the trumpet sounds, (33) That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, (34) his mother, his father, (35) And his wife and his children, (36) Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (37) Some faces that Day will be beaming, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). (39) And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, (40) and covered by darkness. (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. (42)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
