He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
