He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, (1) that the blind man came to him. (2) for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, (3) or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. (4) As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, (5) you attend to him, (6) although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; (7) But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, (8) And with fear (in his heart), (9) you pay no heed to him. (10) By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: (11) and so, whoever is willing may remember Him (12) (Contained) in honoured pages, (13) exalted, purified, (14) In the hands of scribes (15) Honourable and Virtuous. (16) Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! (17) [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? (18) From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; (19) Then the way He made easy. (20) Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, (21) and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. (22) Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. (23) So man must look at his food. (24) We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, (25) And We split the earth in clefts, (26) and therein made the grains to grow (27) grapes, and fresh fodder, (28) and olives and palms, (29) and gardens dense with foliage, (30) and fruits and pastures (31) A provision for you and your cattle. (32) And when the Blast shall sound, (33) That Day shall a man flee from his brother, (34) his mother and his father, (35) And from his wife and his children. (36) every man that day shall have business to suffice him. (37) On that day faces will be bright as dawn, (38) Laughing, rejoicing. (39) And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; (40) Dust shall cover them (41) It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. (42)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
