He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
