He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away (1) Because the blind man came unto him. (2) But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? (3) or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. (4) As for him who thinketh himself independent, (5) to a rich man, (6) though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. (7) And to him who came to you eagerly (8) and fearfully, (9) Him thou neglectest! (10) Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. (11) Let him who will, pay heed to it. (12) upon highly honored pages, (13) Exalted, pure. (14) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (15) Honourable and Pious and Just. (16) Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! (17) Of what thing hath He created him? (18) From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (19) Then the way He made easy. (20) Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. (21) Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (22) But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. (23) Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: (24) That We watered it in abundance. (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) And We made corn grow, (27) And grapes and herbage, (28) and olive trees and date palms (29) Orchards thick with trees, (30) And fruits and grass, (31) as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. (32) But, when the Blast comes, (33) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (34) mother, father, (35) And his spouse and his son-- (36) Each man will have enough cares that day. (37) Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, (38) laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. (39) some faces on that day shall be dusty (40) and veiled with darkness. (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
