He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away (1) Because there came unto him a blind man. (2) What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, (3) Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? (4) As for he who is sufficed (5) Unto him thou attendest. (6) though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. (7) As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), (8) While he fears [Allah], (9) Him thou neglectest! (10) NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: (11) so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. (12) [It is recorded] in honored sheets, (13) Exalted and holy, (14) by the hands of scribes (15) noble, pious. (16) Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. (17) From what substance did He create him? (18) Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, (19) and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. (20) Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. (21) Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) (22) By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. (23) Let man reflect on the food he eats. (24) We send down abundant water, (25) and then We cleaved the earth asunder. (26) then caused the grain to grow out of it, (27) And grapes and green fodder (28) And the olive and the palm, (29) And gardens, dense with many trees, (30) and fruits and pastures (31) For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (32) AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard (33) on that Day each person will flee from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) his consort, his sons, (36) On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. (37) Many a face will be glittering on that day. (38) laughing, and rejoicing, (39) And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. (40) o'erspread with darkness -- (41) Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. (42)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
