He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away (1) from a blind man who had come up to him. (2) But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- (3) Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? (4) As for him who was indifferent, (5) Unto him thou payest regard. (6) though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. (7) And for him who came to you striving, (8) and fears (Allah), (9) From him you are distracted. (10) These verses are a reminder (11) So whoever wishes may remember it. (12) (Contained) in honoured pages, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) By the hands of scribes. (15) Honourable and Virtuous. (16) Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; (17) From what thing did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, (19) and then made the course of life easy for him, (20) Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. (21) and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, (22) No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (24) We poured out the rains abundantly, (25) Then We split the earth properly. (26) and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, (27) And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), (28) and olives, and palms, (29) And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, (30) And fruits and fodder: (31) In order to benefit you and your cattle. (32) And when the Blast shall sound, (33) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (34) And his mother and his father (35) And from his wife and his children. (36) Each man will have enough cares that day. (37) (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, (38) laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. (39) And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. (40) Darkness shall cover them. (41) They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
